Geek Chic Pageant
A runway costume contest with a twist! All competitor costumes must be home made! Other than that, the only limitation is basic decency laws for Hillsborough County. The OddGods will not be held accountable if you get arrested on your way to the competition. We will, however, take copious photographs and post them on the OddCon Flickr page (coming soon), whether or not police are involved. Contestants will be judged and awarded based upon best in show, best in design, best in originality, etc. This competition is open to men and women, of all shapes and sizes. Contestants must be registered by 5pm on Friday.
Categories for costumes include:
- Duct Tape Daevas: Contestants interested in this category must create their costumes entirely out various colors of duct tape. No painting the tape, please.
- ReUse It: Contestants of this variety must create their costumes entirely of recyclable materials.
- Bring the Paint: Body paint is home made. It’s also fabulous to look at.
- MissCellaneous: Cellophane? Indeed. Leather? Certainly. Chainmail? Bring it on. Show us your industrious creativity made with your own two hands.
Pageant Contests:
- “There are 10 people who get this shirt” Wet Geek Shirt Contest: This phase of the competition aims to take the best and brightest and funniest Geek t-shirts that you can find (steal, create, etc.). The funnier the better and duplicates will be rejected so it may be best to make your own!
- “Pr0nCasting” Talent Showcase: - Runway contestants will take their place behind a pipe and drape screen and broadcast their own Pr0nCast. In your best, and your naughtiest, 1-900-number-worthy voice, read to the audience selections from Popular Mechanics, National Geographic, Discovery Magazine, and Popular Science.
The OddBall Masquerade
The Saturday night gala event, this year’s theme for the annual OddBall Masquerade is the “Zombie Prom.” Come dressed in all of your finery to participate in a less than traditional convention costume ball. This is a masquerade, therefore masks are strongly encouraged! If you do not have a mask, you may offer a few bills to the fine skin painter at the door or be subject to finger pointing and laughter. Costumers, cosplayers, admirers and fiends are all welcome to register and pin a number, somewhere, for masquerade guests to discover and place their votes for. This requires a certain amount of panache, charisma, and social posturing for the willing contestant, but that shouldn’t be too much of a problem, would it? Then, eat, drink, be merry and dance as the musical stylings of todays Nerdcore Rock, Pop, and HipHop artists come to rock the face off of Tampa Bay! All votes will be due by 11:30 for winners to be announced at Midnight. Afterwards, let the lights down low and rave alongside Bohemian Fire’s Post-Apocalypta-GoGo @Club OddBall!
Early contest registration is encouraged, so download and email your registration form to tboddcon.contests@gmail.com.
All contestants must be registered by 5PM Saturday for inclusion in the competition. Attendance at the Masquerade is required for voting and announcements. Cash bar will be available, provided by Doubletree of Westshore.
Sunday Morning Hangover Brunch (17$)
Celebrate the closing of the convention with the staff, special guests, sponsors and VIPs for a buffet brunch. Available from 9am to 12pm, this is a perfect time to say farewell, contribute your input and opinions regarding the convention, and possibly influence how next year’s OddCon will commence. These conventions cannot thrive without the support and input of its members and sponsors. This is the only event not included in the ticket price in order to keep entry memberships affordable. The dealer room will be open until 3pm on Sunday.
